Widecombe in the Moor

Widecombe-in-the-Moor  More difficult to reach, but well worth the effort.

With the church 'the Cathedral of the Moor' standing proud in any view, Widecombe has history galore and many folklore legends. Do take time to visit St. Pancras Church in Widecombe (nothing to do with the railway station in London) where there are some truly wonderful stained glass windows here along with a letterbox stamp in the south transept for ardent letterboxing folk. Visit the Village market if you can which is held on the 4th Saturday of each month in the Church House next to the church. The National Trust owns this building and the Sexton's Cottage by the lychgate. The ladies in the Trust shop are most helpful. Anyone over the age of 40 will know of the Uncle Tom Cobley legend and can surely sing the song 'Tom Pearce, Tom Pearce lend me your grey mare'.
This poor creature had to take a heavy cargo to Widecombe Fair.
