The Hemphouse has a delightful open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area, fronted with beautiful windows looking out over the valley towards Brentor. Situated in a smallholding where Chris and Ruth have their own chickens, goats, horses and sheep and lead a very sustainable way of life.  The Hemphouse has one single bedroom downstairs, with an en suite toilet and shower room. This room also contains the washing machine and tumble dryer. Upstairs, the landing area is bookended by a double bedroom on one end, and a twin bedroom on the other. There is one upstairs bathroom with sink, toilet and bath. “These are basic, without frills, solid and worthy lets. The curtains may well be slightly faded, but the welcome from Ruth and Chris is completely genuine. They want you to share their way of life, get close to their much loved livestock, go out and discover Dartmoor for yourself. Stay here and you will have a taste of the Good Life"

This barn conversion with good views gets plenty of repeat bookings. Room for 6 plus a baby. Ruth Boswell told me that the barn is very family friendly rather than chic accommodation, and looking at the prices I see that it is very competitively priced. The highest charge in the school holidays is just £678and as low as £304 in low season. Babysitting on offer and stair gate, highchair and cot on request. Bed linen is included in the price but towels are extra. Some electricity (90 units) is included in the rental then charged.

This delightful detached split-level barn conversion that can sleep up to 8, + baby/small child, nestles next to the church in Mary Tavy.  The tranquil setting is only a few minutes walk from the River Tavy and the breathtaking rugged beauty of Dartmoor, and in the other direction, a good pub with delicious food.  There are lovely walks from the cottage, and from the car if you drive over the moors. The accommodation offers a double bedroom, a double/twin (zip-linked), and a twin room, plus double sofabed with everyday-use mattress, and a cot/small bed.  There are 2 bathrooms.  Sloping ceilings and dormer windows give a clue to its former use as a barn.  All bed linen and towels provided free.  Oil CH/HW included.  The sunken patio has furniture and BBQ, and there is a second patio with table and chairs, as well as a bike storage area.  Guests are very welcome to use the owners' garden.  We are very dog friendly, and pets are free-of-charge. Enjoy the peace, watching the birds feeding at the birdtable in the mornings, and gazing at the stars on a clear night, perhaps while enjoying a glass on wine on the sunken patio.  Away from the Barn, there is lots do in this lovely area of Devon, from theme parks to waterfalls, castles to cream teas, ponies to steam railways and boat trips, gardens to zip-wires or canoeing.  There is something for everyone!

2 bedroom and 3 bedroom timber clad lodges in this quiet quality campsite in a most picturesque setting alongside the River Tavy. A delightful family run site which has 125 pitches for camping and touring caravans, some static caravans and these 2 upmarket lodges. I went along to see inside them on a cold January day and was very impressed. They are modern, warm and spacious, light and spotlessly clean. Very swish indeed. Well equipped with everything from microwave to outside folding chairs to make the most of the relaxing verandah. Cox Tor has a family bathroom with shower and bath, and there is an en-suite shower room in the double bedroom. Electricity and bed linen included - just bring your own towels and tea towels. The kids will love the playpark and the riverbank. Everyone loves the resident ducks. Fly fishing available.
