Drewsteignton - A picture postcard village on the Northern edge of the Moor

Just a 5 minute drive through country lanes from the A30 dual carriageway this pretty village has a friendly Post Office with groceries, an ancient parish church dating back to the Domesday Book and The Drewe Arms a quintessential thatched inn. Castle Drogo National Trust property designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens is situated on the edge of the valley. The last castle to be built in England and is now owned by the National Trust. Down from the village is the staggeringly beautiful River Teign Valley you will find the Fingle Bridge Inn (food available, but no accommodation) in a most perfect riverside setting. 

This is truly wonderful walking country with the legendaryTwo Moors Way going straight through it. There is a bus service to Drewsteignton, from Exeter through to Chagford.

A traditional thatched pub set in the picturesque village of Drewsteignton, Devon. Located on the edge of the Moor, and just a few miles from the A30, it offers the perfect country retreat and is an ideal base to explore this beautiful, unspoilt and rugged part of the country. 

The Drewe Arms has the honour of being listed on CAMRA's inventory of historic pub interiors. The pub itself has evolved out of a series of cottages, with two rooms reserved for those who want to partake in an ale or two by the fire, while taking in the atmosphere of this unspoilt, ancient pub.

National Trust - Castle Drogo The National Trust property Castle Drogo is at Drewsteignton where the Gardens are open all year. Do see the gardens in the Autumn when they are full of rich colour. There is an interesting seed collection day each year, when the Castle gardeners explain how to do just that later on in the year. You need to bring envelopes! Find the date on my what's on page. Castle Drogo is situated high above the Teign Gorge. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for self-made millionaire Julius Drewe. It looks ancient, but this remarkable building was only constructed 100 years ago, the last castle ever built in England. From the beginning it has suffered from water penetration and is now undergoing a 5 year conservation project that will last until 2017 to make it watertight.

Sandsgate, a magnificent detached house with superb sweeping views across the river Teign valley to Chagford, Castle Drogo and the moors beyond. Primrose Cottage, sleeps 4, Drewsteignton, Dartmoor Primrose Cottage

Primrose Cottage is a detached thatched, Grade II listed cottage situated next the the churchyard in Drewsteignton.  Inside it is surprisingly light and has some pretty furnishings.  The two bedrooms are up some steep stairs - 1 double and 1 twin.  Nice and convenient for The Drewe Arms pub.

Higher Thornwood is a Grade II listed 16th century cottage set in grounds approaching two acres. The cottage is available for hire all year round. 

It has four bedrooms and can sleep seven people in total.  The cottage is a 20 minute drive from Exeter and features panoramic views over Dartmoor. A short walk away is the centre of the village of Tedburn St Mary, which boasts a village shop and two pubs/eateries. 

A minimum stay is two nights, and short breaks can be arranged (especially out of high season).
