Lower Blackaton is the perfect place for family and other gatherings, an ideal base for walkers, and a relaxing setting for those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet of Dartmoor. It was once part of a settlement with several other buildings, of which two barns have survived. One of these, originally an older longhouse, can be rented with the house as a workshop or small conference venue, or for special meals and celebrations. An ideal choice if you are planning to start the Two Moors Way walk from south to north. Run alongside a working Dartmoor farm, the bunkhouse (which can sleep up to 50) offers dormitory style accommodation with bunk beds in each of the rooms. A kitchen, large seating area, toilets and showers are all within the bunkhouse.

Lowertown Farm, a 93 acre working farm sits nestled in a valley in the heart of Dartmoor, where a peaceful walk can take you from the top of Blackator to the banks of the River Dart through gorgeous wooded paths and winding country lanes. When Luke and Hannah Fursdon opened a Bed and Breakfast in their 500 year old farmhouse in 2009, these were just some of things they were excited to share with guests. Others include a passion for activities such as diverse as horseback riding and kayaking as well as the joy of getting up close to the animals raised at Lowertown. In 2014 Lowertown began serving it’s very own farm reared bacon and sausages as part of it’s hearty and traditional full English breakfast, complete of course with farm fresh eggs. Lowertown is an ideal place to use as a jumping off point for a active or horsey holiday, with guests horses able to be accommodated, or to just relax and enjoy the dawn chorus.
