Ashburton: ancient, busy little town (interesting shops, including antiques) on Dartmoor’s edge, with renowned cookery school. Within 4 miles is the moor’s most spectacular part (around Buckland, Widecombe, Manaton); within 2 miles, a beautiful stretch of the river Dart leading to Dartmeet, and an ‘adventure park’ (for all ages). Buckfast Abbey, 4 miles; Totnes (small town), 8; the sea at Torbay, 12.
… about ½ mile from Ashburton (1½ miles by car), a detached, single-storey house beautifully converted from outbuildings, 100’ from the owners’ house. Three acres of serene landscaped garden which you are welcome to roam, full of interesting shrubs and plants, a small lake (unfenced) enjoyed by wildfowl and a further 9 acres of meadow. To the front and side of the house, a large area of decking (table/chairs, barbecue) looking to the lake and garden.
Inside, smart, stylish and thoroughly well done. Glazed doors into spacious living room (woodburner, TV/DVD) with oak floor and high vaulted ceiling; fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, cooker with ceramic hob) with dining area and breakfast bar; utility room (freezer, washing machine, tumble drier). Two bedrooms – a double (5' bed) looking to garden and lake with en suite bathroom (suite with roll-top bath plus hand-shower), and a twin (linkable to 6' double) with en suite shower-room (suite with double power-shower). A superbly relaxing place, well situated for visiting the South Hams coast and Dartmoor National Park.
