Wilson Cottage self catering on Dartmoor

I can imagine that this private patio at the back of the let is the perfect space to relax on a sunny day. What a shame that it was a grey day when Rob and I called in to visit Wilson Cottage at Mary Tavy, as the photos don't do it justice. It has far reaching views and as I sit on the settee, I can see cows, sheep and a horse grazing a couple of fields away.

Julian and Lisa have turned what was once an elderly gentleman's purpose built annexe into a light and welcome
holiday let for two. With modern furnishings, flatscreen tv with freeview, dvd player, wifi, up to
the minute fridge, a kingsize sleigh bed, smart bathroom and pleasant seating space with
french doors that look out onto the country view.

My initial thought when I entered the let, is that I will add it to my honeymoon suggestions page straight
away, as it's completely private, and if guests feel like chilling out, this is just the place for it. Sunbathing not a problem.

The kitchen is well equipped. There is no washing machine, but Lisa will pop you a load in her washer
in return for a small charge, should the need arise.

wilson-cottage-kitchen-sink.jpg

The kitchen is sparkly clean and I am pleased to see a 'sink and a half' in place, (above) a single
sink being a personal disappointment to me when I visit any holiday accommodation.

Dishwasher, large fridge freezer, microwave, electric cooker, microwave, toaster, iron, hairdryer etc.

Impressive shower room with a nice big shower enclosure, plus a sturdy stool to sit on should you want it.

Sit up in bed to see sheep and cows in the fields. Plenty of space and wardrobe space in this light room.

There's a sheep on their logo, so a cuddly sheep on the bed too. Books and games in the living room.

Flat screen tv, ipod docking system, free wifi and a DVD player with some DVD's.

wilson-cottage-welcome-chocs.jpg

It's beautifully clean and tidy, and guests are greeted with a Tavistock welcome card and some local choccies.

wilson-cottage-bike-shed.jpg

Should you wish to bring your bikes, there is even a lock up bike shed for you. Just beyond it you can see
the ramp up onto the patio. Parking on concrete is just a couple of yards from the front door where
there is one very small step, and should you need them, a couple of grab rails. This is a holiday
cottage that can easily take a wheelchair, without it looking in any way utilitarian.

There are plenty of good eating places in this area of the Moor, and I daresay Lisa and Julian can advise
on any possible take away services. On the day we visited we were a bit late to expect
food in a pub, so bought two brilliant red hot Cornish Pasties at the local Post
Office which is only a 2 minutes drive away.

If you are walkers, the maps are waiting for you along with heaps of information about the area.

wilson-cottage-guest-book.jpg

I peeped into the Guest Book and this page above sums up the general opinion from previous visitors.
It is a beautiful area. All of Dartmoor is stunning and visitors are often surprised at the high quality
of accommodation we have on offer. This little hideaway has my full endorsement. I know that
Rob and I would enjoy a week relaxing here. Well done Lisa and Julian.
