Formerly the Moorland Links Hotel, the property was purchased in July 2011 by business
entrepreneurs Sonia and Brian Meaden (parents of Dragon’s Den TV star Deborah Meaden).
An extensive refurbishment programme to restore the hotel to its former glory is underway,
with the new owners having invested heavily in renovating the main reception areas
and refreshing all 44 bedrooms, as well as cultivating the nine acres of tranquil gardens.
In fact the day I arrived to undertake my review a new reception was just being fitted.

This is the Forget-Me-Not Executive suite, one of the four suites at the hotel. Leading West Country
designer, Nadine Judd, has introduced the ‘Garden’ of the hotel’s name into the bedroom makeovers.

The Forget-Me-Not suite comes with its own large private balcony overlooking the beautiful
gardens – ideal for enjoying the sunsets.

The next level of suite is the Lily of the Valley Superior suite, beautifully designed and very spacious.

The final level of suites are the Peony or Jasmine Junior suites, I loved the range of different clocks
on the wall in the Jasmine suite.

The premier doubles are all very spacious and provide views across the gardens.

The garden rooms – either twin or doubles are all appointed to a high standard and all rooms
have Wi-Fi access, TV with satellite channels and tea/coffee facilities.

This is one of the eight dog friendly rooms. All of the dog friendly rooms are located on the ground
floor with garden views. Dogs are charged at £10 per room per night which includes
luxury dog beds, bowls and blankets.  Maps with ‘waggy tail walkies’ are also available
and many of these walks can be guided on request by The Dartmoor Ramblers Association.

Located in the heart of the building, the Dartmoor Bar and Lounge is two-tiered with a quiet
fireside area for relaxing and reading, whilst chairs, tables and sofas welcome walkers (and their
four-legged friends) and residents to enjoy local ales and hearty bar food.

Breakfast will not disappoint and is taken in the lovely Wildflower Restaurant.
Please read my food review below for more details on the great food that the hotel serves.

Moorland Garden of one of the few hotels that successfully manages all things
to all people – they have excellent conference facilities and their stunning Crystal Room,
with sparkling Chandeliers, provides a superb setting for a wedding.
