Higher Thornwood a perfect cottage for garden lovers

You won't find a more chocolate box thatched cottage in Devon than Higher Thornwood near to Tedburn St. Mary.

When Sue Edgar rang me and asked if she might come on board she was a little hesitant because her cottage
strictly speaking isn't within the Dartmoor National Park. But I  listened to what she told me about this property
and decided that if, when I went to see it, it was above average, then I would agree to adding it to my website.

Take a look for yourself. As cute as can be and surrounded by the most marvellous cottage garden.
And this in the first week of November ! My own patch is looking particularly end of season, right now, with very
little to write home about, but it's plain to see that this heavenly patch is planted for whole year effect.

And inside is just as way above average as the outside. The fire was lit in the sitting room as sunlight
streamed in through the leaded panes. A perfect hideaway for a romantic short break yet big enough
to take Mum and Dad, 3 children of varying ages plus Granny and Grandad who might like the fact
that the ground floor double bedroom is just through that door to the right of the fireplace.

There are 2 very large bathrooms in this set up. This one is the family bathroom and is on the ground floor.
Any guest in a wheelchair or with limited mobility might consider this arrangement, as access through
the wide front door gives into the sitting room and the downstairs bedroom, and obviates the need to tackle
the stairs which are in the very old turret staircase and are a little tricky. Please see the photo below.

The first room at the top of the stairs is a single bedroom with possibly the oldest windows in the house.
All windows in the house look out onto the garden and it's impossible not to gaze out.

This twin room is nxt to the twin. All rooms have free standing radiators. The age of the house
would make it difficult to install central heating, and the house has a nice warm feel in every room.

Take a look at the master bedroom. Sue tells me there are plans for a new headboard to be fitted.
Should look even more peachy than it does now.  Loads of space and a huge ensuite (see below)

One window looks over the front garden and the second one has views up to Dartmoor countryside.
Towels and bedding are of course included in the weekly rates - which I thought were very fair.
The cottage is available for short breaks out of season. Do email to ask if it's free for the dates you want.

Stable door made of solid oak. Step outside and look right .....

..... I rest my case !!
