A Dartmoor Christmas

Dartmoor is a fabulous place to enjoy Christmas! Choc full of lovely old buildings with low beams and log fires, great places to eat and the most wonderful winter wonderland for walks – what more could you want? To be honest, we are spoilt for choice, but here are some suggestions of where to go for a truly traditional Christmas.

"Where's the Wi Fi?"

In 2017, holidaymakers now expect WiFi availability as standard. No matter where they are staying fast broadband is a ‘must have’ for guests who want to share holiday snaps over social media, search for local activities and stream movies on those cosy nights in. While this may not sound too much of an issue… it can be in very rural areas such as Dartmoor.

Autumn… when things get wild and spooky on Dartmoor!

Dartmoor is magical in the Autumn. With the bracken turning vivid orange and mist hanging in the valleys it’s a visual delight. It can also be a little spooky as Hallowe'en approaches with the moor’s traditional tales of ghosts and pixies and wizened woods – you could scare yourself silly!

Dartmoor Walking Festival 2018 - dates for your diary

The first ever Dartmoor Walking Festival in 2016 was a great success and the very positive feedback really supported the idea of it becoming an annual event which is absolutely fabulous. Therefore Moorland Guides again ran it in 2017 during the same week and once again the public voted with their feet – literally – and it seems that the festival is here to stay! The 2018 event will be held from Saturday 25th August until Sunday 2nd September inclusive which means that this will be the last bank holiday week of the summer.

The Dartmoor Real Ale Trail - on the trail of a good pint!

Dartmoor Accommodation is excited to launch its ‘Dartmoor Real Ale Trail’ featuring over 35 pubs on and around the moor. The brainchild of owners, Lisa Jenkins and Julian Tarrant-Boyce, the Dartmoor Real Ale Trail lists the pubs, their ales and amenities and also features a fun and informative map of the area.

“You could say Julian and I have done ‘extensive’ research into the local hostelries in the area! But seriously, we know from people using our website that there is a thirst(!) for information about good beer pubs in the area. Often tucked away off the beaten track, these can be hard to find so we felt a map, or Ale Trail, would be great way of solving this problem.”

Superfast Broadband - Important to holidaymakers

These days, guests expect to have easy and fast internet access throughout their stay, in fact one in three British tourists now regard wifi access as a holiday essential.  Recently here at Dartmoor Accommodation HQ we had the need to upload some very big files and our internet was just not up to the job.  We went on the search to find the fastest wi-fi in Tavistock and The Bedford Hotel got us out of a pickle and serve great coffee too
