  • Dartmoor Zoo is the zoo that the Hollywood film starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johannson is based upon. in 33 acres of beautiful woodland with some stunning views of the surrounding countryside and a fantastic collection of animals, Dartmoor Zoo is a unique family day out in the beautiful South Hams of Devon. Immerse yourself in a fun day out with the kids: see the big cats feed, hear the wolves howl and feel the snakes wriggle through your fingers in Close Encounters. Follow the daily timetable of events including public talks at feeding times and animal encounters, with falconry displays and kids activities during the holidays such as quiz-trails and face-painting. And when you need a rest, visit the Jaguar Restaurant for a freshly prepared lunch or a hot drink and delicious cake made right here on site.

  • This is where you will find England's highest waterfall with a huge 220 foot drop. Nature and wildlife trails. Walks through woodland, wetlands, lakes and park land including an assault course and caterpillar swing. Play areas for children. Café. BBQs in summer. Cream teas. Gift shop.   • Enjoy Two 235m Zip Wires with Views over Dartmoor National Park. Go Ape’s first Tree Top Adventure in the South West. One of the best days out in Devon, if you’re looking for adventure activities near Exeter then you’ll enjoy an incredible 235m zip wire flying you from hilltop to hilltop followed by another (…just 15 minutes from Exeter)!
  • World of Country Life is Devon’s GOLD award winning family day out, whatever the weather! There are over 2 acres indoors with loads to do: crawl through the themed soft play areas, whizz round the mini electric go kart track, get up close to the animals in the nursery and petting centre, climb aboard the good ship Lady Suzannah in the pirate ship play area while mum and dad have a rest in the indoor beach hut, tuck into some tasty home cooked food in the brand new themed restaurant, watch the daily ferret racing show in the Barnyard Theatre, explore the past in the museum of farm machinery, take a trip down memory lane in the Victorian street, cruise around the south west’s largest collection of vintage vehicles in the Hall of Transport (and see vehicles that have appeared on TV in Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge and Parade’s End) and view the famous Reg Imray motorcycle collection. There’s so much fun, come rain or shine: can you do it all in a day?!

  • Torquay’s Dinosaur World, on Torquay’s inner harbour side, is the only exhibition of its kind in the south west. Full of amazing creatures, such as the terrifying T Rex, and the cute Triceratops, with fascinating fossils to discover, fun quizzes and dinosaurs to sit on, our fun interactive indoor exhibition brings the world of dinosaurs to life!
  • A great place for young children with activities such as feeding the animals, pony grooming, collecting the eggs, pony rides, putting the donkeys to bed at the end of the afternoon, and the pets corner is a delight for children of all ages.   • Powdermills Pottery is housed in granite buildings that were once part of a nineteenth century gunpowder factory. It is found in the very centre of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, and is part of the Duchy of Cornwall estate. Powdermills is the home and workplace of potter, Joss Hibbs. In the Shop, her range of pottery is sold alongside work by other Dartmoor craft-makers. Cream teas are served in the courtyard in the Summer season, and intensive Throwing Courses are run year-round.

  • There is always lots going on at Pennywell. Treat your family to the very best with a full day of hands on animal action at Pennywell Farm. Home of the half hourly activity and with up to 20 hands on activities, shows and displays every day, all included in the admission price, you won’t waste a single minute. There’s something new every half hour – listen for the bell!
  • Eastern White Barrow
  • Free entry to see lots of interesting crafty pieces of art. They have a cafe on the first floor.

  • Cholwell Riding Stables at Mary Tavy, situated between Okehampton and Tavistock and with direct access to rides across Dartmoor. Novice and experienced riders taken, qualified tuition, hard hats. Experienced escorts open all year. 1 hour ride £22, 90 minutes ride £31 and a 2 hour ride is £40.

  • Open this year from 23rd May to early September, this is the largest outdoor, freshwater swimming pool in Devon. The temperature of the water is maintained with solar pool covers. It is just 10 minutes walk from Chagford town centre and a few minutes drive from the A30. There is a small tea hut with snacks and Lifeguards always in attendance. There is a special pool for babies and young children and all children under 9 MUST be accompanied by an adult. Please be sure to check the pool's website for admission fees and opening times.
  • The workshops will be within the Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England, using Acorn Lodge as a base and will be for all levels of photographers who want to learn real wildlife photography.
