2 miles south-west of Lydford and 1 from its gorge, 400 yards of private farm-lane end at Burnville Farm, a lovely farmstead amid beech trees. It is on the side of a shallow stream-valley with supreme views of Dartmoor hills and tors and to Brentor’s peak-top church, from almost anywhere on the 250 acre working farm (direct moor access from it). There are sheep, cattle, ponies, pigs, chickens, ornamental pheasants. You can roam the farm and help is most welcome
The Hemphouse has a delightful open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area, fronted with beautiful windows looking out over the valley towards Brentor. Situated in a smallholding where Chris and Ruth have their own chickens, goats, horses and sheep and lead a very sustainable way of life. The Hemphouse has one single bedroom downstairs, with an en suite toilet and shower room. This room also contains the washing machine and tumble dryer. Upstairs, the landing area is bookended by a double bedroom on one end, and a twin bedroom on the other. There is one upstairs bathroom with sink, toilet and bath. “These are basic, without frills, solid and worthy lets. The curtains may well be slightly faded, but the welcome from Ruth and Chris is completely genuine. They want you to share their way of life, get close to their much loved livestock, go out and discover Dartmoor for yourself. Stay here and you will have a taste of the Good Life"
Lowertown Farm, a 93 acre working farm sits nestled in a valley in the heart of Dartmoor, where a peaceful walk can take you from the top of Blackator to the banks of the River Dart through gorgeous wooded paths and winding country lanes. When Luke and Hannah Fursdon opened a Bed and Breakfast in their 500 year old farmhouse in 2009, these were just some of things they were excited to share with guests. Others include a passion for activities such as diverse as horseback riding and kayaking as well as the joy of getting up close to the animals raised at Lowertown. In 2014 Lowertown began serving it’s very own farm reared bacon and sausages as part of it’s hearty and traditional full English breakfast, complete of course with farm fresh eggs. Lowertown is an ideal place to use as a jumping off point for a active or horsey holiday, with guests horses able to be accommodated, or to just relax and enjoy the dawn chorus.
